Tip Of The Week: How To Hang Artwork

Interior Design Guide

Fine Art Gallery Wall

Never mind unlocking the secrets of dark matter or decoding the human genome—figuring out the proper way to hang artwork seems to be one of the greatest unsolved mysteries facing humanity. A question that perplexes many of our clients, it’s funny to think that something so simple on paper can be so flummoxing in reality. If you have found yourself hanging frames only to find that something just feels, well, off—you are not alone. While tackling this tricky decorating issue is not a matter of science, there certainly are rules that one can follow to ease the process.

“When it comes to hanging artwork,” our designers say, “a good rule of thumb is to eyeball its center-point and hang that at eye level.” On average, that is approximately 57 inches from the floor. If you are assembling a gallery wall, find the center point of the entire arrangement and expand outwards from there. Mystery solved!
