While we aren’t for fleeting trends to help define our takes on interior design, there’s inspiration to be found every time Pantone announces it’s color of the year. And with 2019 taking us to the world of ‘Living Coral,’ we turned to our interior designers to share their approaches when injecting a home with brilliant hits of color.
According to the Pantone Color Institute, Living Coral evokes “playful expression,” and our “innate need for optimism.” Best of all, however, is that the color selection wasn’t just based off a random whim or trending cues. As a tribute to environmentally challenged coral reefs, Pantone declared that “Living Coral is evocative of how coral reefs provide shelter to a diverse kaleidoscope of color.” Now, how’s that for inspiration?
Use It To Accessorize
When it comes to quick and affordable décor updates, nothing beats a few fine accessories. Of course, they’re also easier to commit to and can be found relatively inexpensively.
From a scented candle to linens to even lamps, there’s an endless variety of options to be discovered. The key here though is to add no more than three pieces in any room in hopes to not overwhelm the eye or come off heavy-handed.
Create A Mix Of Complimentary Tones
Note how the matte coral tone of the couch lends the room featured above its strongest statement. While the icy blue wall color and patterned brown rug work together to keep the eye focused on that conversation-starting couch.
Use living coral as a visual anchor in any room as it pairs well with just about any color, and when it comes in a darker range, it looks all the more timeless.
Think About Waking Up Your Entryway
While the structure illustrated above boasts an endlessly charming appeal, the look would be completely different if it weren’t for that eye-catching dusty coral front door.
Follow suit and consider repainting your door in a signature shade, or bring your entryway back to life with vibrant hits of coral via a rug, framed prints, or catchall trays.
There’s Nothing Wrong With A Small Dose
Again, when it comes to color trends, there’s no need to go full-force as sometimes the best moments come from subtle plays on color. How about a living coral accent wall, coral curtains, or fresh bed linens in this seriously peppy color?
Consider Pattern Plays
Create distinctive plays on pattern by letting coral work as a starting point since it, again, works well when paired with just about any color. From coral replacing red in a black and white color combination to a range of tonal shades, the color really does provide so many design directions that’ll help you make it unique to you.
