Before & After

The frenetic pace of New York is unquestionably appealing, but it also pushes urban dwellers to search for quiet sanctuaries within the city’s confines. That’s why a Turtle Bay family with two young children contacted Décor Aid to transform their townhouse into a tranquil residence.

The five-level townhouse was constrained by space and lacked a plethora of sunlight, so our master designer planned to brightened and optimize the space with custom walnut wall units and soothing neutral colors. This family asked for a streamlined, decluttered feel, so we his plenty of storage options behind custom floor-to-ceiling units. Our clients wanted the option to entertain, so we added a hidden wet bar behind one of the walnut wall units. A second-floor kitchen saves trips up and down the stairs while entertaining, and the bar can be easily tucked away when not in use.

With an affinity for art deco light fixtures and furniture pieces, we juxtaposed these modern details with the traditional architectural elements of the family’s quaint brownstone. Original mid-century pieces, not reproductions, were important for our clients. And so we searched flea markets, vintage retailers, and estate sales to get the exact look that our client wanted. To reflect our client’s Persian heritage, we sourced a careful collection of rugs throughout the home.

We created an impactful entryway, featuring a refinished wood floor, which is punctuated by an art deco style mirror that is original to the house. Glittering chandeliers throughout the space tie the look together.

For the master suite, we crafted an oasis for the parents with an opulent bathroom that’s outfitted entirely with Calacatta marble, custom wood cabinets, an oval bath tub, and a shower with a rainfall shower head. With elegant neutral fabrics, wood pieces and art-deco lighting, we created a spectacular master bathroom.
