An Upper East Side Family’s Living Room RedesignedBefore & After
A family of four living on the Upper East Side wanted to give their living room a needed boost of color, and to create a modern, luxurious feel in their apartment. But we found that their oversized brown couches and taupe walls were crowding out sunlight, making it difficult to create the space they wanted.
As a dual-purpose space, the living room needed to be both suitable for hosting guests as well as being comfortable enough for a weekend game night.
Subtle, grey walls reflect light more easily, while semi-gloss white accentuates the space’s crown molding. A high-sheen silk-wool rug from ABC Home also gives the space a lighter, brighter feel.
At Decor Aid, we provide our clients with access to exclusive trade discounts, so our client was able to stretch her budget and source pieces from Edward Ferrel + Lewis Mittman, in addition to a triplet of light fixtures from Y Lighting.
By taking color cues from our client’s existing art pieces, we were able to pepper in dashes of color throughout the space, and sourced a colorful collection of textiles fabrics and decorative objects. A
