Boston Interior Design Inspiration

INSPIRATION

Founded in 1630, Boston is one of the oldest cities in the nation, and the Massachusetts capital has wealth of historic architecture to match. But while the buildings are–ahem–mature, the population is anything but. There are more than 100 colleges and universities in the Boston area, which means that the city is brimming with youthful energy and modern interior design sensibilities. That combination of historic charm and fresh ideas make for an interesting juxtaposition when it comes to Boston interior design.

Décor Aid designer Meredith, a Boston native who heads up our office there, says locals respect the historic buildings in neighborhoods like Beacon Hill and the Back Bay, and they try to maintain the character of these structures through restoration and preservation efforts. But that doesn’t mean that millennials are filling their post-grad apartments with antiques. Instead, Meredith says Bostonians tend to gravitate towards more modern furnishings. The clean lines and minimal designs of these pieces actually draw more attention to the classic architectural details, which makes for a stunning contrast.

Take a look at some of these gorgeous Boston homes, whose interiors respect the past while looking towards the future.
