Eclectic Loft Design Overlooking The Statue of Liberty

A couple with a young daughter moved from a traditional co-op in New York City’s West Village into an ultra-modern apartment in Battery Park City with floor-to-ceiling windows offering stunning views of New York Harbor and The Statue of Liberty.

Over the years they had amassed a varied collection of furniture that worked perfectly within the old apartment. However, they couldn’t quite figure out how make it work in their new space without competing with the views. So, they came to Décor Aid for a design solution. Oh, and they needed their apartment done in time for them to host a huge family Thanksgiving gathering, which also happened to be the day before the couple’s wedding.

The sleek, sunny apartment was like a blank canvas. And with all the windows, our designer had to take the city views into account when designing the space. The apartment has an open-concept design where, the kitchen flows into a living and dining area, so it was important to create defined spaces while maintaining a cohesive look.

The homeowners weren’t sure if they should get rid of their gorgeous mid-century dining set, but our designer assured them that, by adding some key new pieces, she could design a space that incorporated their beloved furniture collection. A bold Diane von Furstenberg snakeskin area rug by The Rug Company anchors the living area, where a modern white cocktail table juxtaposes the couple’s leather chesterfield sofa.

In the daughter’s room, our designer amped up the space with lots of vibrant colors, patterns, and textures. Cheerful throw pillows bring in pops of color from the wall art and the area rug, and a sheepskin layered over the area rug adds a playful vibe. A Poppin box bench at the end of the bed doubles as extra storage.

The serene master bedroom features a metal four poster bed flanked by framed images from the couple’s collection of classic rock photography. Bright, patterned throw pillows and a hide rug add a modern spin to the space.
