DÉCOR AID AT DESIGN ON A DIME’S INTERIOR DESIGN CHALLENGE

Marking our fourth consecutive year as participants selected for Housingworks’ interior design challenge Design on a Dime, an annual benefit and charity auction, we tapped Décor Aid interior designer and Peter Marino alumnus Victoria Tomlinson Cole, to create a warm room that was reflective of the spirit of the various elements found outdoors.

Given an extra large double sized vignette to decorate, our team spent over two months from conception to implementation in the space to create a scene that felt magical, and almost hardly designed at all – in effect, natural.

To achieve the look Décor Aid sourced over $100,000 worth of donations from the industry’s best design institutions including Design Within Reach, Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams, Stark and Bungalow 5.

Highlights included a curved wooden shell chair finished with a cowhide cushion, dozens of overstuffed floral and embellished pillows, decorative coordinating crystal bowls of various sizes, and metallic and marble vases and objects from Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams.

Matching striped Stark carpets worked to lend the space a sense of harmony while a Bungalow 5 mid-century modern inspired four-door credenza was punctuated with feminine Hollywood regency Louis XV inspired dining chairs.

Along the dining area’s wall were Lynford Woodshop succulent shelves included to bring the room to life, and graphic artwork by Katie Heffle and Caryn Leigh worked to extend our initial outdoor theme into reality.

The event’s opening reception brought in hundreds of New York City’s design-minded devotees hungry for a great deal and out to help an excellent cause and included Bravo’s Andy Cohen, DJ Mia Morretti, and entertainer Kim Chi, of RuPaul’s Drag Race fame.

Housingworks is a nonprofit that fights to end AIDS and homelessness. We are proud to help Housingworks fight for such worthy causes alongside the industry’s best interior designers and wish them continued success.
