A Country Modern Connecticut Estate

Greenwich, CT

It’s easy to see why New Yorkers are drawn to Greenwich, Connecticut: the charmingly rural town feels far removed from the city’s hectic environment, but it’s still a reasonable commute. For this project, our clients–who work in Manhattan–wanted to reimagine a 1970s-era New England Colonial, which was woefully in need of an update. Accordingly, the rustic yet modern interior design blends sleek, industrial lines with rough-hewn natural textures like concrete and reclaimed wood.

Décor Aid transformed the traditional kitchen by opening up the space and adding a wall of windows, plus modern elements like sleek Corian counters, globe pendant lights and a glass dining table. The understated palette makes the most of the abundant natural light, while the kitchen island provides functional space for prep and entertaining.  A reclaimed wood wall warms up the space, and the equine wall art is a nod to the horse farms in the area.

The kitchen flows into the airy living room, which echoes the kitchen’s neutral palette and reclaimed wood accents. A sprawling white sectional sofa in front of the streamlined fireplace provides plenty lounging room for the homeowners and their three sons, while a new set of sliders bring in more natural light.

In the library, the glamorous gold-leaf ceiling was inspired by a Paris hotel where the family had once stayed, and that dazzling design element is balanced by the subdued grey walls and silk rug. A wall of built-in shelving serves as a custom display area for books, objects and antiques.

The white walls of the dining area keep the focus on the stunning live-edge walnut dining table, which was made by an artisan in Quebec and sourced through Etsy. A built-in wall of aquariums makes for an unusual wall art alternative.

The living room features a concrete wall consisting of handmade panels, and the space is punctuated by an architectural black steel fireplace. Throughout the home, the textiles and finishes are durable, ideal for a family with three young children, and the eclectic room designs are alive with the wall art and accessories the owners have collected in the course of their travels.
